The Green Dreames Of Teletubby Dave: How The Coalition's Energy Policy Is Leading To Disaster by Ed Butt. 2011-06-10 When governments are not blowing bubbles of the economic variety they are living in the pastel green dreamworld of illusion dwellers. Being politicians of course they really have no more interest in creating a sustainable economy that will deliver a reasonable degree of prosperity to all that they have in saving the planet. The only goal of politicians in democratic nations are ever interested in is gaining and then holding onto power. To this end the politicians in Britain, mainland Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia and Japan have played the old fear and panic trick, predicting imminent disaster and hoping to convince the public that only the policies of their party or coalition can save us. This time the fear and panic is not about war as it usually was in the past, but about climate change and the destruction our profligate, fossil fuel dependent lifestyle is about to wreak not just on western civilisation but on the whole world, starving African children and heartbreakingly cute small furry animals included. The problem is the public aren't buying it. At long last the public are waking up to the fact that the green dreams of politicians re based on 'scientific research' carried out by weirdie beardies whose main area of research was in the benefits to be gained from the recreational use of psychoactive drugs. It may be beyond the metal ability of politicians and scientific weirdie beardies to understand that a nation dependent on solar panels and wind farms is going to be without power on windless winter nights when the temperature plunges to -20C as it did in the cold spells of November - December 2010 and December 2009 - February 2010 but the fact has not escaped the ordinary punters. Spain and Denmark, the first developed nations to commit to wind and sun for their power needs have already felt the chill wind, both physically and economically, that blows wherever politicians are fool enough to listen to crackpot scientists who are so deluded they believe their mathematical models have some relationship with reality. Denmark now gets most of its power from Germany's coal fired stations while Spain is importing electricity from electricity from France's nuclear generating plants. Both are paying "green" energy operators for energy they do not generate because the idiot scientists who devised the feed in tariff for green power based their figures on the supposition that wind and solar farms operate at optimum efficiency even when the wind does not blow and the sun does not shine (i.e. at night.) If you want a sensible answer to any question, never ask a computer or a scientist. The level headed Dutch have already sen which way the wind is (or isn't blowing) and have ditched their feed in tariffs that offer premium rates for electricity from sustainable sources. We in Britain however are being led by the nose into an absurd to the point of being surreal experiment in covering the beautiful British landscape with huge, ugly, noisy wind turbines because the coneheads refuse to acknowledge they made a kindergarten error in their calculations and the global-warming-obsessed, weirdie beardie influence government are committed to an energy policy that will make them our greenest (and most catastrophic) ever government. Another instance of this political obsession with sucking up to the weirdie - beardie and sciencyhead lunatic fringes was the announcement tucked away in George Osborne's Budget that he will impose a 16 a ton tax for carbon, a measure worded in such baffling technobabble no one has yet really bothered to spell out what it means. What it does means is that for every ton of CO2 emitted by British industry, and by our electricity companies in particular, a tax of 16, rising over the next nine years to 30 will be levied. And who do you think will end up paying that? Right, we poor, harassed punters. The electricity companies will pass it right on with, of course, a reasonable mark up added to compensate for their effort in acting as tax collectors. And this government sad there would be no Gordon Brown stealth taxes? Eff off. In the last financial year coal-fired power stations, which supply nearly a third of our electricity, used 40 million tons of coal, each emitting up to 2.9 tons of CO2. For this 116 million tons, we shall see nearly 2 billion added to our electricity bills. The same tax on gas will add a further 1 billion to our bills, thus increasing them by a total of 3 billion a year, rising to 5 billion by 2020. This will add more than 25 per cent to the price we currently pay for electricity, or 200 a year for every household. That is on top of what we will have to pay for all the Governments other green delusions, such as the 100 billion it wants spent on 10,000 giant wind turbines , plus another 40 billion to hook said wind turbines up to the grid. The 100 per cent subsidies for onshore wind power and 200 per cent subsidies for offshore will add further billions to our bills, in return for what will still be only a small fraction of the electricity we need. Already we have seen one estimate, from analysts at Matrix Group, that Mr Osborne's new carbon tax will so skew the economics of coal-fired electricity that four of our larger French- and Spanish-owned power stations at Kingsnorth, Didcot, Tilbury and Cockenzie will have to shut down by 2013, even earlier than their forced closure under the EUs Large Combustion Plants Directive. This will knock such an enormous hole in our generating capacity we can look forward to the first of those long-predicted power cuts and blackouts.
The problem really is that though we had a new government last year, they are listening to the same climate science community, filled with the same crooks and liars as their Labour predecessors did. These are the people who gave you climategate and then tried to suggest that sending out e-mails saying in effect, the bastards are onto us, destroy the evidence and includes Professor Mike Mann, creator of the infamous Hockey Stick graph, the man who threatened to sue on website for calling him a The true impact of Osborne's stealth tax has registered with Britain's business community. Among those already forecasting that Osbornes tax could lead to plant closures and the loss of thousands of jobs are Welsh MPs and Assembly Members who are conscious that one of South Wales's biggest employers is Tata Steel, with 7,500 workers. Tata itself has warned that Osbornes tax will cost its British operations 20 million a year by 2020, representing a potentially catastrophic blow to the sustainability of UK steelmaking. David Cameron's response to this is that, on the contrary, he is hugely heartened by the fact that Tata is putting more investment into the UK. And what is the investment Tata plan that has Dave creaming his underpants? They will be setting up a factory to make blades for those windmills that do not generate any fucking electricity. Politicians are so far removed from reality these days Dickhead Dave and Company could not hope to understand what this tells us about the infantile green Teletubby world he and coalition buddies are living in. I guess the moral of this story is politicians need to learn they should always listen to what scientists and "experts" tell them and the DO THE EFFING OPPOSITE.
